We have been told by a dealer that we should consider ordering the optional Spartan chasis because the FL chasis has an inner and an outer radiator and the manual states that you need to remove both radiators yearly for cleanning. The theory is the inner radiator gets no clean, or fresh air and you can not get to it to blow it out or clean it without removing the outer radiator. First, is this true? Secondly, does anyone EVER remove both radiators for cleaning? Sounds a little strange as these coaches stay on the highway most of the time but possible I guess. What does everyone think?

Not sure if I understand the question. Are you considering trading in that beauty in the picture for a motorhome on a Freightliner chassis? If so; I have a 2004 motorhome on a late 2003 Freightliner chassis. This unit has the rear radiator setup. When they say two radiators that is not correct. You have the radiator and you have what is called the aftercooler. These two units do sit one behind the other and depending on how your crankcase ventilation system works (slobber tube) an oily residue can collect on the radiator and after cooler. Part of the maintenance schedule for the rear radiator Freightliners is to clean the radiator/aftercooler at least once a year. This procedure requires you to spray a degreaser from the engine side of the radiator into the cooling fins let it set then hose it out with water. I just finished doing mine today. It's a dirty job but doable at home. If you neglect to do this you will experience overheating problems and if you let it go too long will have to remove both the radiator and after cooler and have them cleaned. I have heard reports of this running as high as $1000.00. Any chassis that uses a rear radiator system will require this maintenance but, I certainly would not let it stop me from buying one.

I second what Brian is saying. I spray Gunk engine cleaner from both the front and back of the radiator unit and let it soak for about ten minutes and then hose it off. The other thing is to extend that #@$#$ slobber tube back and down so the oil doesn't get sucked up by the cooling fan and sprayed on the radiator unit.

If you are ordering a new MH and are considering a FL chassis, I believe the 2007 model and newer have an improved oil vapor control system and don't have the problem you're referring to. I agree with the other responses for model years 2004 thru 2006.
I think the Spartan chassis is great but you have moved to a bigger MH and probably a side radiator.
Anyway, keep the radiator and intercooler clean with an annual cleaning, and you'll do just fine either way you decide. There are a number of discussions online regarding this topic. Try RV.Net
BTW, we have a 2004 on a Freightliner chassis.
