Freightliner diagnostics-connected or not connected?

when doing the diagnostics check I get the L/NC or H/NC. how do i know if it is connected?

What kind of equipment are you using? Handheld device or lap top with software?

It really shouldn't matter what you are using, once connected the equipment should read the trucks vin number & production date & that will pop up & you can go from there.
