My 3-yr Freightliner warranty will expire Feb 2010. I'm not big on extended warranties but since this MH has a lot of expensive stuff, I plan to call Freightliner next week to get facts on the extended warranty that Camp Freightliner recommended. Looking at the warranty book it seems to only cover axles, drivetrain, frame, etc. Does not cover engine, tramsmission, engine brake, etc. Doesn't seem much point in the extended warranty. Have any of you benefited from the ext warranty or lost out from lack of the warranty??? Thanks.

It's a Freightliner warranty so it's only going to cover Freightliner products.
My opinion, FWIW, on extended warranty's/insurance is, it I can afford to pay to have something fixed I don't need it. If I'd go broke paying for the repair then I need the warranty.

If the FL coverage includes "drivetrain", that word normally refers to the engine and transmission.

As to whether a extended warranty is worth the cost, read the fine print carefully and make your own decision. Like any insurance, it pays to have it if your luck runs bad and costs you if your luck runs good.

One consideration on the FL warranty is that it is honored at FL dealers but perhaps not elsewhere. You can buy other extended warranties, including those on the entire RV, that are more widely honored.

You engine and transmission have their own 5 year warranty. Call Freightliner and ask what it would cost to replace an air bag. That might help you make your decision.

I would only carry a good towing policy as My last repair (lift pump) on my 04 Expedition was covered by MFG warranty(cummins) but the towing bill was 750 bucks and not covered.

The Good Sam Roadside Service is inexpensive and has unlimited towing. When I say unlimited, I mean no mileage or cost restriction at all! I don't have their extended warranty, but having the Roadside Service is worth having just for towing, if nothing else.

Another benefit: I had a lot of wind damage to my coach awnings (the awning arms and all) and State Farm covered all of the cost under comprehensive, but I needed someone to fold the awning arms up and tie them to the coach. State Farm doesn't offer that type of help. I couldn't do it...disabled. I called Good Sam and got on-site help within the hour. Because I didn't carry the entire Good Sam Plan, I had to pay for parts and labor, but it was still a bargain because I couldn't find any other help at 7:00 at night. The cost is $80 for one year with discounts for 2 or 3 years.

Thank you for all of your suggestions. I subscribe to Coach-Net which provides "Towing your disabled vehicle to the nearst qualified repair facility as determined by Coach-Net" So I guess I have unlimited/no extra cost towing. Freightliner X Warr seems to be $1000-2000/yr and I won't go broke fixing it (I hope) so I'm not going to buy it. Thanks again, happy travels.

For $1000-$2000 per year, you can get a warranty that covers the entire coach, not just the chassis. I paid a little over $3000 for 4 years of coverage on mine.
