Hi, I'm looking at buying an older DP and I don't have much information on it so I'm trying to find more. According to CarFax, it's built on a 98 Freightliner V-line chassis. Is this good or bad? I've seen mhs built on Freightliner X-line but this is the first time I see V-Line. Anyone know anything about it?
Let me know. Thanks,
Mike

Never heard of the V-line. Maybe it was the old Oshkosh chassis that Freightliner bought up?
Suggest you cal Freightliner Custom Chassis Customer Service and ask. Have the last 6 digits of the VIN handy. 1-800-FTL-HELP
Or email fcccservice@daimler.com and include the VIn with your question.

Don't know if this helps but the john Deere brand chassis that our '87 bounder is running on had the designation of RV 1000,there was also a smaller 800 and bigger RV1200. Now john Deere became oshkosh then freightliner took them under their company.
Remember hearing that jd had done a diesel pusher chassis, maybe the "V" is part of the "RV" chassis tag from the john Deere days?

Thanks for the info. I'll give Freightliner a call and see what they can tell me.
From what I've been able to find, it was used on some late 90s mhs including Tiffin Allegro Bus and appears to be a bit heavier duty than 'X-Line' chassis (although I don't really have enough information to be sure about that). Based on the specs for X-line (e.g. late 90s Fleetwood Discovery and Bounder Diesels), the GVWR/GCWR for the X-line was 25000/30000, the V-line was 30000/35000.

In case anyone else is curious, I got a fast reply from Freightliner (thanks again for the suggestion Gary).
The chassis is actually a Freightliner VC (as oppose to Freightliner XC (for the X-line)). The main difference is that the VC comes with a ISC vs ISB on the XC and the VC is has a bit higher GVWR (as I noticed and suspected). Also looks like VC was raised rail (I think late 90s XCs weren't)
One thing that I did learn that surprised me a bit is that Freightliner doesn't 'advertise' a GCWR so it sounds like that's set by the RV manufacturer depending on the hitch.

I am a bit late on this thread, but would like to add this information for the benefit of others.
The VC chassis was a Premium Chassis produced be Oshkosh/Freightliner into the 2000's.
It was a RAISED RAIL, pusher chassis, available in rated capacities from 29000# and over, depending on the requirements of the motorhome OEM.
The VC Raised Rail Chassis was used by Tiffin, Airstream, and others for the Premium units 36' and longer. These offered larger basement storage, and large CC (carrying capacity) and were equipped with all the HD options one would expect on a premium unit.
Bottom line: if you have a VC Raised Rail Chassis, you have a keeper.
I have some more information on these chassis on this site.
Freightliner Chassis, Oshkosh, Clipper - Airstream Forums
The Airstream Clipper used the VC chassis, and with the aluminum framed construction of the Clipper, the CC was unmatched by any unit of the same length.

Thanks for the extra info. My purchase didn't work out but it's good to know if I see more in the future.

yep when i called f/l earlier this year during the annual inspection they told me the weights are set by the coach builder, and they spec the frame to meet the specification the coach builder desires
the 1-800 folks are tops in my book, quick accurate answers every time, they even sent me a email that had the number of frames for damon my MY and what the specs of each item on the frame were to meet
