I took my new, 2011, Journey Express for an overnight trip from Texas to Oklahoma this weekend. I bought diesel in Oklahoma because it was a bit cheaper than Texas. When I got back in the coach and was driving south on I35, I noticed the fuel gauge was not working. I completed my trip home with the gauge still reading empty.

When I got home, I reset all of the breaker buttons and pulled and reseated all of the Freighliner fuses. I started the coach again and it is working fine.

I was wondering if others have had similar situations and what was the actual repair. I am not exactly sure what I did to fix the gauge but it seems to be working now.

Could be that it was a temporary glitch, but possible a loose ground for the sending unit. Watch for a repeat performance, and try to record the temperature and humidity, hours run since shuting off ignition, headlights on, any condition that may be contributing. Could make it easier to trouble shoot.
My fuel gauge reads a 1/4 tank higher when driving with the headlights on. Still working on that!

All the gauges "feed" off the LBCU...Light Bar Control Unit. I once had a problem with my air gauges reading zero and it was a problem with the LBCU. I would suggest you call the Freightliner Help Desk and run it by them. They are available 24/7/365. You will need the last six digits of your VIN. You need to have the number programmed in your cell phone also. 1-800-FTL-HELP.

I have seen the same issue after fueling twice in the last 3 years. In both cases it was after a fill-up.

Both times it "healed itself" the next time I stopped and restarted. Didn't have to pull fuses or anything, just turning off the engine and restarting seemed to fix it.

Know there must be something loose (and the prior posts have given good advice) but haven't dug into it yet.
