Fuel System Explanation

I have a 2002 Itasca Horizon with a Cat 330 engine. I have been trying to find a "Fuel System" explanation that can be easily understood by a layman. Does any one out there have a good schematic, layout or clear written explanation of the parts and their function? For example I read about "lift pumps" and "injection pumps" but nothing that clearly spells out what they are and how they function. I know for example that my unit has a pump on the motor that is mechanically driven that provides pressurized fuel to the injectors. Is there a pump that delivers fuel from the tank to this unit? Or is strictly a suction that draws the fuel? All and any information is appreciated.

You (I think) have a:
1) fill cap that vents vacuum (allows air in) but not pressure out
2) fill tube to the tank, & vent return tube to allow air to escape while filling
3) tank
4) fuel line to engine assembly, produces ~6-8psi
5) electric lift pump on right side of engine under the engine's computer
6) fuel line to the injection pump
7) Injection Pump, gear driven off engine, produces ~2500-3000psi to injectors, with a
8) return fuel line to the tank (diesel fuel is the internal lubricant for the high test IP)
9) "common rail" fuel line off the IP so all injectors get the same pressure
10) individual fuel lines, 6 ea, one per cylinder
11) injectors, 6 ea, one per cylinder
I think that's the whole shebang.
