Thanks RVER 98. YEs FL gave me the same part # DQ6050 so that is mine also. The service instructions are great. Can this be changed without dropping it down (undoing the 3 bolts) or is it just easier ? I'm assuming the air lines need to be taken off also (quick release ?) Thanks...Ron

Good point Ernieh. Yes that is correct and thanks for the reminder. I have noted that my 2008 coach has the Haldex which has the 4 bolts to be taken off to change the filter.

I was able to change mine by removing only the four bolts. REMEMBER TO DRAIN ALL YOUR AIR PRIOR TO REMOVING.

Good luck

I did mine a couple years ago with the help of a mechanic and would probably rate it a 5+. Only the engine air filter was a harder project. Both of these were definitely not intended by FL to be a do-it-yourself project.

While I will admit that neither of these jobs is "pleasant", I think that saying they are not for "do it yourselfers" is a bit of a reach.

Most anyone with a reasonable set of tools and automotive knowledge can handle it. I've done both with no problems and I am far from being a heavy duty diesel mechanic.

I tried to change mine by removing it out to a work bench but the one air line with the quick release would not quick release. The other line can be taken off with a wrench. I (we, a helper and I) just dropped it down by undoing the 3 bolts but this did take two of us, one to hold the housing so no extra pressure would be on the air lines, while the other removed the 4 bolts and the housing. Freightliner told me they always do the change without removing the 3 bolts but I just can't see how it can be done considering all the dirt and grease up under the undercarriage around it without getting some contaminants during re-installation.

I'm fortunate to have one of the spin off air filters and have changed it a couple of times, alone with the other parts that come in that rebuild kit. It was tedious and messy but not difficult.

The engine air filter is just bulky. The first time that I did it, I learned alot. Completely removing the mounts for the retention straps makes a big difference in how long it takes to get the old filter out. I put the straps and their mounts on the new air filter and just lowered it into place. I wouldn't give it more than a 3 on the difficulty scale and that is mostly from wrestling the size and weight where you have your arms extended.

Getting the rubber hose connected to each end of the engine air filter while holding that bulky thing in place caused most of my problems.
