Our 07 Vectra with the pollock guages and info center has an issue. Freightliner says it is normal but it is a pita.

While driving and I put the wipers on whether intermittent or high/low via the smart wheel controls, the backlighting on the info center (digital readout of temps, fuel ,etc) goes from day to night mode. When I say day mode I mean the normal mode which is a white backlite with black numbers and letters. Nite mode is black background with white letters.

The operating manual says when this occurs to manually switch the headlites on/off and the backliting should go back to day mode. Mine does not do that, when we called freightliner they said the manual is incorrect and the only way to get back to normal mode would be to cycle the ignition switch. Switching the ignition off while driving would not be a good thing.

This is all related to the daytime running lites.

Can someone check their system to see if it behaves like mine please.

Thanks
Jim

Our '05 Meridian doesn't have the newer info center with day-night mode, but we have a similar issue with the headlights. The daytime running lights are on all of the time, of course, but when the wipers are turned on, all of the lights go on and the headlights go to full brightness. Just like yours, our operating manual says to cycle the headlight switch on then off again to turn off the lights. Of course, this doesn't work, and Freightliner gave us the same line about the manual being wrong. It would seem that after two years they might have corrected the manual.

Thanks John, I wonder if it is an issue that people don't notice it and don't complain to Freightliner or it just doesn't bother them?

I have the same symptom on my 07 Itasca Ellipse 40FD. The only way I've found to reset to day view is to cycle the ignition at the next stop.

PITA is right!

Interesting. I only recently had occasion to drive at night for an extended period and was bothered by how bright the new Mediallion display I installed stays bright 100% of the time, wipers on or not, lights on or not. My guess is the retrofit of the new display to the older coaches doesn't have night view mode at all.

What a difference in night vision..
