While attending the Hershey RV show this past weekend, I spoke with 2 service reps that were at the CAT booth. Both reps told me that the C-7 loves 10w/30 motor oil, reason, during cold starts the injectors fire off more easely with the lighter viscosity oil. The 15w/40 can cause damage to the injectors during cold engine starts due to its thickness. The 10/30 will perform fine under all but the most extreme temp conditions, will not cause a failure. I know I have heard about injector issues on the C-7's, maybe I was just told why, and given a remedy ? Any Comments???
Now I may have a use for the 4 gallons + of 10/30 Amsoil in my garage ?

Strange as it may seem, I was told by the parts supervisor @ Savannah, Ga Cat dealer/maint facility that Cat only makes (carries?) 15w40 oil for their engines. Wonder which one is correct??
Freightliner and Cat would us all a great service if they would stop putting out conflicting info..

I think with the highter temps in the south, there would be no need to stock oil for sub freezing weather.
recommendations from cat web site.
[URL=http://ohe.cat.com/cda/layout?m=72021&x=7]
-4? F to +104? F SAE 10W30 CJ-4
+5? F to +122? F SAE 15W40 CJ-4
Below 0? F, block heater or oil pan heater is
recommended.

Ah, but Cat does carry a 10/30. But maybe just not in the deep south. Its not a low temp issue guys, its a viscosity issue dealing with the injectors. Lighter is better
Thanks for the table DonG, except for the southwest, I don't think I will see those high temps, and I know I sure ain't looking to find them either

CAT RV recommendations are:
-4 to +104 F SAE 10W30
+5 to +122 F SAE 15W40
