I have a 2012 Newmar Dutch Star DP with an ISL-400, side radiator on a Freightliner Chassis. The cooling fan is operated via a belt from the engine turning a shaft. The shaft turns a small gearbox, and the fan is connected to the output shaft of the gear box. It seems that the fan is operating at a single speed--only controlled by the engine RPM. Is something not working or is this normal? I do see a connector/wire assembly running by the fan. I first noticed this when I had to turn down the backup camera volume because the fan was too loud, and later I was following my brother-- he was driving his 2005 Vectra (Freightliner with ISL) and when we pulled out of a side street he could hear my fan "howl". When I drive through the gravel parking lot where I keep this unit I really kick up a good dust storm.

An update--

I called Freightliner today to ask about my fan operation. I do have an electric fan clutch that should turn the fan on/off as needed. If there is a fault in the system the fan will default to always on. Freightliner also told me the fan will operate anytime the Chassis Air Conditioner compressor is on. I believe my fan clutch is always engaged-- so a trip to my local Freightliner shop is order.

My 2011 DSDP 4020 ,FTL XCR chassis has a hydraulic driven fan. For your fan problem keep in mind that the AC compressor is always ON,except for OFF,VENT and FLOOR Heat.
