Kwikee Under Stair Light

The lens of my round understair amber light is cracked and loose. It has not fallen off, in fact I cannot get it off.

Is there a secret to its removal? Is this a stock light? Where might a replacement lens be found?

I have read of others replacing this bulb with an LED. Have others done that?

Thanks,
Ron

The light , may be a Kwikee item , my steps have one but, the manual says it's an option ( part number in my 1996 dated manual, that came with my 99 coach, is 909004 ).
No bulb # listed or instructions on lens removal. And I've never had to take mine off, so I'm sorry I can't help. Tonight anyway, I'll try sliding under tomorrow and repost with any up-dates.

If we have the same light, 2 1/2" amber , lens turns , but won't thread off. You need to pry the lens with a thin 1/4" blade flat screw driver. The bulb is a GE-193 .
The light was designed to be mounted vertically with a water drain by the wire, because it is mounted horizontally they drilled a drain hole in the center of the lens. If you need the lens , and want to switch to LED bulb you might as well go shopping for a complete assembly. NAPA, AutoZone, Pilot, and Flying J would all stock what you looking for.
Just have to be sure the led is rated for the same amount of light; as the 193 bulb; or higher if you want brighter light.

rogo 88,
Yes, those lights are a Kwikee item. It's a simple notification light. It's rather weak in my opinion so, I changed it to two, LED light fixtures I purchased at our local Auto Zone parts store. It's a simple change over if you are thinking about it. I unplugged the light wire, then removed the stock light. Then, I placed the two LED lights, each about 3/4" wide and about 3" long, at strategic spots, ( in the same general area as the stock light and, in the same spot on the other side) and, used a self drilling screws to mount them. Then, linked the two positive wires together and tied them to the original light supply wire. The grounds I just screwed down with one side of each of those LED lights.

Way better, considerably brighter, when on that is, and, not nearly as much draw on the electrical system as the old one but, that was not a consideration anyway. So, there you have it, simple, easy, done!
