I need more information on where to best purchase a new heater core and steps to take installing it. I read the older threads but hope some new items have been discovered since 2007. I have a 2000 Itasca Horizon on a XC chassis and fuild is running out of the heater box. I've bypassed the heater so I've got time to repair, just need a bit of info.

I had a leaking heater core in my old Southwind, years ago. The local radiator repair recommended replacing the honecomb core with a radiator type core. So he re-cored the unit I had. There was never another leak, though I had the Southwind 16 years, and when we had the camper up north, it gave off plenty of heat.

Plus, it was MUCH cheaper than getting a replacement from Fleetwood.

SCS Fridgette makes the OEM core and in my talks with them, they indicated they had improved the core. Most reputable automotive radiator shops can re-core the thing. When I replaced mine 2 years ago, local shop wanted about $185 to re-core and I got the new core from SCS for just a bit over $100. R & R is a bit of work since the front lower cap must be either removed or disconnected and rotated down and out. SCS did recommend grounding one of the inlets to the chassis.
