I just want to thank everyone for their replies. I have a service appointment at Gaffney for another issue in March 2015 on my way to FL. I have asked them to check for codes and make any necessary repairs. I was told it is likely a computer glitch and even if I got a new odometer it would start at 0. I will let you all know how that comes out.
Thanks;
Don

The odometer is a digital readout, not a "dial" type guage. According to Freightliner, the dealers I have talked to, and several independent shops, resetting, or changing the odometer readout is illegal. It is a thorny problem, especially when it comes to having warranty work done, or possibly selling your rig, and easily stating current and real mileage.

So it seems we have this issue as well. Has anybody reported this? There's a real issue of value at stake here. Just wondering if anyone is pursuing this or if everyone's throwing up their hands and taking it. Not sure what could be done, but it seems like there's enough that something could happen.

Not had the problem, but FREIGHTLINER can independently pull the mileage off the ECM, and my odometer mileage essentially equalled my ECM mileage. There is a bunch of other data in the ECM. Had about a 20+ page printout.

I'll see about the repair in mid-March, 2015. That's when I'm scheduled for my second visit to Gaffney and Camp Freightliner.
I'll have them give my "13 million mile chassis" the once-over. I guess it might be time for transmission service...or an oil change...or something.

Lost Odometer Miles Coming Home From iRV2 Rally
When I bought my coach the odometer read 5161 mi. The original owner said that at some point after the warranty was over it reset itself to that number and every time the ignition switch is turned on it goes back to that number. I don't believe parts are available to repair it. I use the mileage off my VMSPC so it causes me no problem. It would probably be cheaper to buy a VMSPC from Silverleaf and pickup an old laptop then to repair the odometer. Once you've driven using a VMSPC and all the info it gives you you'll never want to be without one.

Your 2000 model will not have the MMDC. Your instrument system is known as System III. The System III was used in chassis manufactured from 1999 to June 9, 2002.
You can download Freightliner SB 54-12 that has a lot of info including troubleshooting the system. The easiest place to download the SB 54-12 is ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/gowest/2010-06-18_002844_sbu5412.pdf
Thanks for your service.

Thanks for that info, Fred. That is very helpful. I assume that the ECM still tracks the actual mileage with the Systerm III?

I believe that is correct. The engine computer is one of the inputs going to the VDC (Vehicle data computer). The VDC pushes data to the Message Center on the dash, and the message center drives the instruments. Look at page 6 of the SB 54-12 for a better description.
I use VMSpc running on an old windows tablet, and it always displays the correct mileage. VMSpc runs off the vehicle data bus, and gets the same information as the dash instruments.

Thanks, Fred. I think I will look into getting the VMSpc setup. I have a ScangaugeD, which is nice for a lot of things, but as near as I can tell can't read the total mileage.

Hmmm...I think it did work but now it is putting "www.irv2.com/forums/"in front of the original link and it does not work.
Here are two new links to try:
ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/gowest/2010-06-18_002844_sbu5412.pdf
or this:
www.discoveryowners.com/VDCTROUBLESHOOTINGGUIDE.pdf
Comment added via edit: I just tried both of the above links, and the IRV2 forum is not linking correctly (or there's something I'm not seeing...not enough coffee this morning). Anyway, just copy the above link and paste into a new browser window and you should get the download to work.

Mileage Fix
This happened to my Workhorse Chassis gas pusher UFO chassis (a great chassis, IMHO). The odometer would reset to a much lower number every time the chassis battery disconnect was used. The front chassis control module which controlled the gauges and odometer reading was replaced under warranty. Although the dealer was not authorized to code in the proper mileage a Workhorse factory regional rep was authorized to do so and he showed up with the special software version (not available to the dealer) and he coded it in after the new chassis control module was installed. So from that I learned that new odometers or their computers can be changed and a correct mileage entered but only by certain authorized entities (probably only factory reps and perhaps others) but that does not usually include dealers. I just got a 2012 Itasca Meridian 42e with a Cummins LSI 8.9 on a Freightliner (Winnebago Maxxum) XCL Chassis and love it.
