I have an '03 Gulfstream Friendship Quattro 41' on a Freightliner chassis with 22.5" wheels. I need to know the size of the lug nuts so I can buy the proper wrench/socket. Thank you

Curious...Have you ever changed a 22.5" tire?

No, and I don't intend to. But I want to be able to check the tightness of the lug nuts before starting out on a long trip. I just had new tires installed and I thought being able to check the lugs would be a good idea.

I think they are supposed to be around 450 footpounds so you better have a looong handle on that socket.

Yep.. 450-500ftlbs. There is a 'torque multiplier' you can buy though.

450 Ft/Lb way beyond the range of a 1/2" torque wrench. A good 3/4" torque wrench that's in the 100-600 Ft/Lb range is around 3-4 feet long. When looking, take bldrbob's advice- "...you better have a looong handle on that socket.".

When I searched their website, the Horrible Freight store doesn't appear to have a 3/4" torque wrench that will satisfy your needs so the torque multiplier looks like your only option there. According to their specs for it, the output side of the multiplier requires a socket on a 1" square drive. I found only two 1" drive socket sets there- one SAE chrome and one metric impact. The impact set is called a Truck Service Impact Set and, most likely, will have the size socket that you'll need.

22-mm stud hubs require a 1-5/16-inch (33-mm) socket

I get the impression that not many owners carry a lug wrench or worry about a lug nut coming loose. With the prices I found for a heavy duty enough torque wrench, I think I will just assume the shop did it right when they installed the tires.

I was taught in driving the school bus that if they are finger tight, you'd best get the mechanic to tighten them with the air wrench..In ten years of driving the busses,I never had a loose lugnut...I had them all checked when I got the new MH in April and they were all tight.
You don't need a wrench to check them.. If they are gonna be loose,it'll be finger loose...

There's a lot of difference between "finger tight' and 450 lb-ft!

I do have a 100-600 ft pound torque wrench but do not carry it. I do, about twice a year, check the torque on the lug nuts. Nope, never found one loose but I do have a certain amount of comfort knowing the lug nuts are very tight.
