M2 106

Hey all,

Researching MDT/HDT Rv Haulers I really like the M2 106 Freightliners. They are very inexpensive used from Ryder or other leasing companies. The thing is the Chassis was designed for a box truck and has a rather long wheelbase besides the extra frame length behind the axle will not accomadate a 5th wheel hitch as is. I was wondering if I go that route if its possible to move the axle more towards the cab and have the excess rail length cutoff. I have heard that it can be done and that its a matter of cutting the bolts off the frame moving the axle forward then installing new bolts/rivets as the chassis has holes already drilled out. Obviously the driveshaft might need/replacement or be shortened. If this is possible are there frame shops that can do that kind of work? Anyone ever try this successfully.

Thanks,

Dave

Yes, it can be done. I had one done for my ranch. You will need to find a shop that has done it before. A used truck dealer did mine. They are familiar with it. Not a big deal, but make sure to use someone who knows what they are doing. Better yet, let the dealer you buy the truck from do it.
