Manual Release Valve

I changed my air dryer filter today and that went OK but in the process one of my manual air release valves developed a serious leak.

So far I've found several sources of the valves on eBay but I'm reluctant to buy a pig in a poke. Anybody know who makes the actual valve and it's part number? BTW, it's called an Air Tank Moisture Drain Valve.

For the time being I have a standard compressor pop-off valve in it's place. Any reason I shouldn't do that?

Thanks,
Muddypaws

Check with your chassis mfgr. If Freightliner, call them with your VIN number and they should have part or at least part number. (probably made by Haldex-Midland)

FWIW One time when I pulled the lanyards to check for moisture, one of the drain valves would not seal. Had to jiggle it in different directions, several times before debris or whatever cleared.

eBay

I found a Freightliner shop on eBay that had them so I bought a few. Seems like a good idea to carry a spare.

Leaks!

The valve I installed leaks rather severely around the threads. It's either the wrong thread pitch or manufactured to such poor tolerances that it's going to take gobs of thread sealant to hold air.

In either case I would not recommend this part to anyone.

Fixed

I fixed the leak 99.9% just by tightening it. A little thread sealant will take care of the rest.

So disregard what I said about bad parts. They're fine and appear to be better than OEM.
