I am passing this first time experience on; hopefully it will help.
Prior to a recent trip departure we checked our MH lights. Discovered no MH brake lights on our 2004 Journey 36G, nor any lights on the toad. This was the first time that I have had this problem. I recently had a toad light problem and discovered with the help of Freightliner and Winnebago where to find the toad wiring connector controller mounted behind a panel in the exterior electrical compartment. During that event I found two blown fuses and replaced them and also found that the toad umbilical cord had shorted out at the connector. So with that in mind, not knowing what else to check, I first checked those fuses and they were good.
I called Freightliner and they were very helpful and patient and they directed me to the front electrical panel. The rear brake light fuse was labeled on a drawing mounted to the panel cover. The drawing was not oriented to the actual installation but I eventually figured it out and checked this fuse and it was also good.
Freightliner suggested that either the brake pedal switch was bad or maybe something simple like one of the wires that are connected to the switch was loose. I crawled underneath and the reach up to the brake pedal switch is a long way and not much room. Yes, the nut that holds the wire to one of the brake switch lugs was loose. I tightened it up and one and half hours late we were able to depart. But we did not miss our trip so a
Great Big thanks to Freightliner!
Not so many applauses for Winnebago’s help desk. I called them to make sure where the fuse panel was located for the brake lights. And after speaking to two different people (I was hopeful that the second call would hook me up with better help) they both insisted that the tow controller was the place to check the motor home brake light fuses. Having just learned all about the tow controller I tried to discuss this with them but they insisted that they were correct. It would seem to me that Winnebago’s help desk should know where the motor home brake light fuses are located. Winnebago was the one who mounted the Freightliner fuse box in the front electrical panel! So I was disappointed with their response.
