Just wondering if any of you have had attempted to get warranty coverage on a Michelin tire. I am going to replace Pilot XZE 275/80r22.5 LRG that has a 3 inch sidewall crack. The tire has 14k miles on it, about 3 years old, and Michelin (Uniroyal) says it is warrantied for materials and workmanship for 5 years. The distributor where I am buying and having my new tire installed says they give it to the Michelin rep when they dismount it, and he determines the coverage if any, and Michelin reimburses me. Sounds like a strange procedure - has anyone had a similar experience?

Ranchovectra- I have experience with them twice in one year and both times it has been nothing short of outstanding. You need to call the customer service number (be prepared to wait for awhile if it is on Monday or Friday) and establish a case number. That gets the ball rolling. Next, follow their instructions they will give over the phone as to how to handle your situation. In both my cases they never questioned me and even ended up giving me a brand new tire free. I am sold on this company. I know some posters have had negative experiences with them but not the case here. Good luck.

Thanks for the tips, FT, the note they sent did say if there was any issue at the dealers to have them call the 800 number they gave me, so that's what I'll do. Appreciate the help.

Have just been through this on a front tire with 44,000 miles which had developed a bulge on the side. The dealer found no road damage and authorized replacemet with adjustment based on tread wear. I was very satisfied with both the procedure and the result.

Turns out I didn't have a crack, I had a cut, now warranty adjustment - cracks are longitudinal, same direction of the treat, cuts are generally radused perpendicular to the rim, which mine was. I actually think I know when it happened.

Interestingly they replaced the tire in about 15 min without removing the rim - and even more interstingly I realized I don't have a spare, since the thought is anyone with a 22.5 inch tire won't replace it themselves.

Good service, price was ok, so I am satisfied (shouldn't I be?).
