Radiator fill cap
What am I missing on taking off this cap. I push down and turn approximately 1/2 turn then it raises, but will not lift off. Do not want to pry it off. Thanks for a rookie!

You have got it half off David, after loosening it to its first stage, push down with the palm of your hand, rocking it side to side, and rotate it further counter clockwise...........or grip the whole cap, pushing down, side to side pressure downward while turning it.
They can be a bear at times.......

Your only half way there. When it stops, this is the relief point intended to relive pressure without the cap flying off.
At this point, push down again and continue to turn until it gets to the release point.

Do you have a plastic overflow tank? After filling the expansion tank, the plastic tank should also be filled to the Cold Level also.

I thought I followed the overflow line by tank cap. It looked to go towards ground, but will look this evening after work. Do most keep the expansion tank level to the glass that looks as it has sandstone on the inside?

They often get dirty and hard to see. They can be removed and cleaned, may need a new o-ring to seal it.

Has anyone had a hard time locating the Shell Purple HDT antifreeze?

I would buy a new cap while you are at it. They do wear out over time.

Half full is about right for that coolant reservoir - check the sight glass. If you can see coolant in the glass, you have enough.
Freightliner does not use a coolant overflow/recovery tank. Unlike a typical car cooling system, the coolant the reservoir has plenty of room for expansion.
