I just got wind on a FCOC site, of a service bulletin regarding ISL 400 side radiator overheating problems. Fixis new fluid in clutch, a new rock guard, more insulation in rear cap, and a new outer grill. Anyone aware of the details, or has anyone had theirs fixed. By the way I asked Freightliner "Whats the difference between a recall and a service bulletin" answer, " we only do service bulletin repairs, when customer reports a problem with the issue. Mine overheated last summer!!

My coach (05-400isl)overheated last summer real bad on a long trip. When I got home and checked with Freightliner/Winnebago/Cummins and everyone else it was mostly pass the buck and it should not be happening. I took it in to a rv service center and they found the hertz on the fan cluch to be programed wrong, ever since then even pushing it up the I-5 Grapevine 6% grade this last weekend, fully loaded with 6 people and a toad @ 50mph 4th gear the hottest it got was 202. I'm away from the coach now but I can post what was on the repair sheet if needed. Seemed like an easy fix and hope it may work for you!
Ben!

He was pretty sure that it applied ONLY for the Mandalay with the ISL/side radiator.
Just to be sure I logged into the the secure accessfreightliner.com site (same one the dealers use) and entered my VIN and there are no recalls for my chassis.
If there are more questions about this, I will corner the FTL guys - let me know.

I had that done to mine. They replaced the Dexron in the fan hydraulics with motor oil. There was a new baffle (I guess you could call it a rock guard) underneath the radiator to duct the air better. They didn't replace the grill but there were some small baffles that were inserted behind it to further control airflow. Also, the air intake hose was wrapped with heat reflecting tape to provide cooler inlet air. This was all part of a Freightliner service bulletin and at their expense. It followed an earlier bulletin to reprogram the MMDC because some units had faulty programming that ran the hydraulic fan at a lower RPM.

Called freightliner this AN, the bulletin only effects Mandalay with 400 isl side radiator, but ththe post about reprograming the clutch fan is interesting. I will have freightliner check mine on next service visit. Thanks for your responces.
