I've finally had my fill of the unreadable Driver Info Center Display screen in my coach, and ordered a replacement with the brighter background. I ordered it through a friend of mine that works for Fleetwood MFG., and the unit came without any installation instructions. Before I call Medallion, the manufacturer of the unit, I thought I'd check here to see if anyone has replaced theirs and can give me any help & advice.

Craig - Have the same displeasure with the Info Center, I never even look at it anymore. Can you tell what the new display sells for? I know when Freightliner first announced this new unit, it was selling for $75 but a short time later this program disappeared and the price shot up. Surely someone can answer your installation question as I think I remember a poster telling how much better it worked.

I installed a new display 3? years ago.You need to take out 2 screws from the back. The little connector is the same.It will be easy to read, blue on white.

I also replaced mine about 3 years ago...what SIGGYD said is correct, however, I believe I remember that there was another step in the instructions, that involved setting some parameter on the old one before disconnecting it and connecting the new one....I am sorry I can not be more specific but I no longer have the instructions....hopefully somebody has a better memory of this than I.

If I recall correctly,it was said to set the contrast setting of the old display all the way up,so that the new display can show the writing clearly.
If the old display is set to very low contrast, then the new display would not show anything and you could not make adjustments, because you can't see anything. But that was no real problem, since my old display had medium / resonable settings.

Thanks guys....that will help me. I'll remember about the contrast also.

wagonmaster2,

The unit sells for $315 through Freightliner, under part number KYS-1539-10207-11.

The improved display is apparently available for $199.50 from Ross Distributors (see this post on the Yahoo FCOC board: Improved Info Center Display)

siggyd is correct. Make sure you turn up the contrast before removing the old unit. Other than that it's a snap. Sure glad I got mine before the price went up. It's still worth the money though. I remember driving down the freeway with alarms going off and not being able to read the display until I could find a place to pull over so that I could get down on my hands and knees on the floor to read the display.

Yep, exact same thing happened to me last October, which was why I decided to replace it.

I like the newer model a lot better. I have noticed that the clock keeps terrible time though. I set it the first week of December. I moved the coach today and noticed that the clock has already lost 15 minutes. I keep the coach plugged into shore power at home constantly, so I don't think low battery voltage is the culprit.

I have not paid a lot of attention to the clock since everytime we put the motorhome away I disconnect the battries. Last trip I don't think I even set the clock when I hooked the batteries back up.
