My Winnebago Journey (05,Cummins 300) gave DW and I a fright

, while driving in a heavy downpour. Many cars hydroplaned into the ditches and there was much pooling on the road. Suddenly the dash went wild: Flashing, red "stop Engine" warning , check engine began flashing, the info center informed me engine was overheated and the coach coolant temp exceeded 242 degrees, all with wild warning buzzing. I pulled off, shut it down and figured I had a ruined engine.
Now for the good news. After much worry, checking the manual and waiting 20 minutes , we cautiously turned the key - things looked normal. Fingers crossed we started the engine. After driving a few minutes at low speeds the temp gauge jumped around once or twice but then settled to normal 195 degrees. All systems were normal (no warnings or check engine lights) and we proceeded slowly at first (rain had stopped) and then gradually returned to 55 mph with no problem

.We subsequently completed our trip 8 days and 3000 miles latter. We concluded water had been thrown everywhere and systems got wet.
The obvious lesson - get off the road dummy. DW was a little kinder but did have a blood pressure spike, she thinks, and now want to get off the road when we get a few sprinkles.
Has anyone else had a similar experience?
Again - just pull off when things get touchy.
