My Winnebago Journey (05,Cummins 300) gave DW and I a fright , while driving in a heavy downpour. Many cars hydroplaned into the ditches and there was much pooling on the road. Suddenly the dash went wild: Flashing, red "stop Engine" warning , check engine began flashing, the info center informed me engine was overheated and the coach coolant temp exceeded 242 degrees, all with wild warning buzzing. I pulled off, shut it down and figured I had a ruined engine.
Now for the good news. After much worry, checking the manual and waiting 20 minutes , we cautiously turned the key - things looked normal. Fingers crossed we started the engine. After driving a few minutes at low speeds the temp gauge jumped around once or twice but then settled to normal 195 degrees. All systems were normal (no warnings or check engine lights) and we proceeded slowly at first (rain had stopped) and then gradually returned to 55 mph with no problem .We subsequently completed our trip 8 days and 3000 miles latter. We concluded water had been thrown everywhere and systems got wet.

The obvious lesson - get off the road dummy. DW was a little kinder but did have a blood pressure spike, she thinks, and now want to get off the road when we get a few sprinkles.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?
Again - just pull off when things get touchy.

We had a 2005 Diesel Bounder that had a similar problem. Looked like a pinball machine up front with gauges swinging wildly, lights flashing and everything you could imagine. We drove it 4 days from Dawson City, Yukon to Calgary Red Deer area where a Freightliner dealer found three loose pins in the MMDC computer canon plugs. Never had another problem, but that type problem is almost impossible to find unless it persists.

All' well that ends well I guess. You should give 1.800.FTL.HELP a call and ask what they think. If you don't get through right away, leave a message. They are 100% on call backs. I would be curious if they say something other then unusual weather conditions. Sometimes it just may not be practical to come to an immediate stop.

You are indeed correct on the Freightliner call back follow through. I call a few weeks ago and was put on hold with the automated phone system. I got tired of waiting due to watching a very over active 2 year old so I hung up. A few hours later a Freightliner Rep called back to assure everything was OK. I never left a phone number they used their caller ID.
