On idle I have an intermittent screeching sound. It is high pitch and loud. But it comes and goes. It seems loudest right at the radiator in back of coach. Could it be a fan clutch? Could it be a belt (I have not heard a slipping belt sound like this). There are no abnormal warning lights and the oil pressure is normal, temp is normal, and volts are normal. This is on a warm engine, 2002 330HP Cat 3126E. It's hard to figure out where this sound is coming from.

Not sure there is a fan clutch on the 330HP Cat. Haven't really looked at my arrangement but if there is an idler puller on the serpentine belt like a car arrangement, could it be the idler pulley going bad? Just a guess, from what I've run into on some of my cars.

Previous to an early build in 2003 the 3126E has a greaseable fan bearing. Hard to get at and hard to find. If not serviced that could be the noise which could be an impending failure. Mine is a 2003 and about 30 units before they switched to a sealed bearing. I have to lift the rear bed cover and you feel just behind the upper pulley. I used a small gun with a solid short extension as it is very hard to get two hands in there. Sorry to be so long winded but thought as much info as possible might help.

Thanks for suggestions. I'll look for the grease zerk for the fan, and probably replace the belt to get started. Maybe I can find the bearing making the noise. Thx. Jeff.

Our 03 Journey experienced noises like you describe. Turned out to be the AC compressor pulley seizing. Almost impossible to see. After removal of the serpentine belt and checking each pulley for problems only then could it be positively identified.

good luck, let us know how you make out
