I don't want one, figure they are just something that is technical that can go wrong. However, I may be going to Florida in a few days to check on an 06' Itasca Horizon with this type steering wheel.
Anyone with stories or information, good or bad, that you might relate to how these things hold up?
I am having some problems getting my mind wrapped around how controls work on something that turns like a steering wheel/

When you think about it you probably have some variation of the smart wheel in your car. Many of the newer cars have them and don't present that much of a problem. However, if you do have a problem it can be a real stinker.

I have it on my coach and really like it. It keeps my attention focused on the road instead of hunting for switches on the dash.

I have had coaches with and without and much prefer it with the controls on the steering wheel.

It only involves one wire from the steering wheel that carries the signal. Its signal is coded based on what switch you push. There are other things on the engine and transmission that work much the same way. This is a design that has been used for some time with many devices outside of the automotive world.

Got one, works fine. If it was an option I would probably add it. Had these types of wheels on my last two Exploders and have had no problems whatsoever. As Harry said, it keeps your attention off the dash. I just wish the exhaust brake was on it.

I've had them on my '04 Bus and on the '07 Bus. Thy are very handy and I like them. I did have "issues" with my '04 Freightliner SmartWheel. The wheel sends codes down through 2 wires in the clockspring to a relay module, which interprets them and does the correct analog relay closure. The module went goofy and did the wrong stuff at the wrong times. Freightliner replaced it under warranty and it was okay after that.

I have had our '04 Horizon for 2 years and no problems with the smart wheel. Maybe be because it isn't THAT smart but works fine for Cruise, Wipers and light flashing.

I would not like to be without it. Good luck if you get the '06 we are very happy with our '04.
