Called Winnebago to see if I could get extra ignition keys for my coach. They said to call Freightliner, which I did.

Freightliner tells me for security reasons that there are only 2 keys available for each coach. To get new keys one must have new tumblers installed in the ignition lock, and again they are only shipped with 2 keys.

So if anyone loses your ignition key and want to have a spare, Freghtliner's advice is to have the tumbler replaced to get 2 new keys.

This sure doesn't sound user-friendly to me.

Anyone have duplicate keys made at key shops? I am told the blanks are not available.

Pusherman, a good quality lock shop should be able to duplicate your ignition key on a aftermarket blank.

Don - I had one made at the local lock shop. Took him all of about 30 seconds to find the right blank and charged something like 3 bucks...

I went to local Freightliner dealer (Stoops Freightliner) and for $20.50 plus sales tax, they made me two keys while I waited. $8.75 for each key, $1.50 each to cut it.

Took the motor home to dealer for some warranty work, they promtly lost the keys. They went to the Freightliner dealer with one of my extra sets and had another one made to replace the lost one. I wonder if they paid the same price?

I had a spare made at our local locksmith shop back home and it costs about $3.00.

I too had no problem getting a duplicate Freightliner ignition key made at my local full service lock & key shop for less than $5.

Thanks everyone! That was the info I was looking for. I will find a lock shop (or Freightliner dealer) to get some extras made.

The policy at Freightliner must be new. I had a M2 done at Gaffney and they sold me two blanks which could be cut at the hardware store.
The invoice read:
2 key blanks at 8.47 each part number 22-54495-000.

Purchased these in 9/22/05. 05 34H Jouney Cummins 300

I just got 2 keys cut at a lock shop today. They don't have the fancy plastic on the end of the key, but they work. $4.00 ea. + tax.

So the blanks ARE available (as a lot of you have already discovered)!
