Speedometer Gauge

I have a 2000 DSDP on a Freightliner chassis with a caterpillar 3021 . While driving about 65 mph on I40 in Tenn., the MPH needle went past 85 mph to straight down. It stayed that way till I got to Nashville KOA ( 2hrs) after shut down the gauge returned to 0 mph after about 2 minutes. I haven't left Nashville yet to see if gauge works. I priced the gauge though Freightliner and Freightliner is very proud of gauge. Has anyone experienced this problem.

Before you spend a lot of money, I would first check the ground. They get faulty a lot more than gauges fail. And it is intermittent when they start to get dirty or corroded.

Freightliner in 2000 used the Medallion System III gauges. They receive info from the VDC (vehicle data computer).
Sometimes various gauge malfunctions will occur, speedo goes to zero w/o affecting cruise control. Air pressure or other gauges fluctuate, and then all will reset and operate normally after vehicle is shutdown for several minutes. (reststop)
Freightliner Service bulletin on the gauges is available here: http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/go...44_sbu5412.pdf

Also the VDC or VDU had a problem with cold solder connections that caused gauge problems. Article here in IRV2 files section explains the repair process. http://www.irv2.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=76

(hopefully your problem is just -everything will reset on restart)

spedometer update

Well I drove from Nashville, put in about 300 miles and speedometer work fine. MPH reflected the same as my Scan gauge. Today I drove about 200 miles and speedometer started reading 75 mph when I was actually doing 65 mph, per Scan gauge. The comments on gauges reflex they sometime read wrong and need to be rebooted. Does this sound logically?
