Standard wheel or smart wheel ?

I have the standard , and will look this afternoon at removal , never had to remove , the 4 " horn button, so I'll be finding out.

horn buttons

Mine doesn't have a smart wheel but the center part of it is about 5 x 8 inches . I need to get this one off and it looks like it hooks back under the lower 2x 8 horn button on the bottom. All help appreciated. Ronnie

Steering wheel is supplied/installed by Freightliner, so your fastest/most accurate help would be customer support at 1-800-FTLHELP 1-800-385-4357. Great folks there.

OK , way different than my 99.

Have you looked up from underside of the spokes for; recessed retaining screws ?

Steering

I guess that is my next move, there is certain postions I can't get in because it cuts for breathing off. I have very bad lungs. If you flip the horn swith on the panel is this suppose to cut off the regular horn and switch to the big horns ? When I flip mine it doesn't do any thing and the regular horn keeps working. I'll just keep tinkering with it when I can. Thanks very much for all the help, Ronnie

Take a mirror into the coach , to see what's on the backside of the wheel's spokes. You could need a phillips screw driver or 5/16" nut driver to remove the horn pad.

My air horn dash switch just adds the air horns to the electric ones; they are always on . You have to pull a fuse or the relay to shut them down.

Cap

There are no screws on the back side, had it unhooked at the top but could not get the bottom to come loose. I guess I'm just going to have to let go. I called Freightliner 3 times and got 3 different stories and none of them worked. Thanks very much !!

If you're trying to get your air horn(s) to work, you likely don't have to get into the steering wheel. I had this problem and found my horn was plugged by mud daubers. Once cleared, it worked in tandem with the electric horn.
Sorry if this is off base with what you're trying to do.

in the center of the wheel near the bottom, there is a hex screw that you can undo that takes off the plastic padded center. there are smaller phillips screws that remove the horn buttons. I believe 10 in total. I have mine apart if you need some pix! Takes about 10 mins to completely take it apart.
