Replaced my surge tank as many have on this forum. Now I'm dealing with leaks around both the new large black cap seal as well the small one. Have tried to use Rector Seal, but that hasn't worked very well. Open for suggestions.

Second problem is that I can't see the fluid level inside the surge! I can squint, look all around, and only in very certain light can I occasionally make out the coolant level in it. What are you guys doing. Because of my leaky large side cap, I can't be taking it off to look down into...and the pressure cap on top doesn't allow me to see in. Right now I'm using a straw down thru the pressure cap hole and back at different depths to determine, sort of an inaccurate hassle. Could sure use some help.

I'm guessing now that nobody has any suggestions for me. Do you have an area on your tank that you can see through, or do you check it by removing the large black cap?

Our surge tank is made of white translucent polyethylene or something similar and I can see the pink antifreeze level easily through the side of the tank. Is your tank made of a different material?

Sounds like the same. I'm using Final Charge antifreeze which is orange. But, I can't make out anything inside the tank.

What if you used one of those tape levels used for LP gas tanks. Difference in temperture may read your fluid level in tank.
I can not see through tank sidewall either in your pic.

Certainly a thought, as long as you took the measurement first thing in the AM. Might go in search of one. Do you think the heat would make the adhesive release?

No you will have to try it to see. Maybe there is a stickyer clear tape to put over it like tape use making up box's if it did come loose.

Gary,
I just take my flashlight (usually at night) and hold the lens against the tank. Then, it is easy to see the level. You can do it during the daytime but it just is not as easy. I hope this helps.

Mike Cody suggests you hold a lighted flashlight to the side of the tank. You will see an obvious difference where the fluid level stops.

I read a thread about using an electronic household stud finder to find the level in a holding tank. If you have one, give it a try and let us know how it turns out.
