Transmission bang when dropping into first

I’m hoping that this is not a rare thing but I didn’t find other posts on this. Several times when driving slow in town, when I came almost to a stop, I felt a big crash from the back. A couple of the first times, I really thought someone crashed into me or my tow came loose and hit me. This has happened multiple times but not every time. Just yesterday as I was approaching a stop light, I again felt like I was hit from the rear.
This is a one year old 2017 Newmar Ventana LE 40’ with Allison 6 speed. I think it’s a 2500. Is this something I should take into shop for? Or is that just how it drops into first gear sometimes?
Thanks for your suggestions.
Doug

Check the U joints, you might have one going bad. Shouldn't happen on that new a unit but still a possibility.
We had two Dutch Stars and had trouble with the slip joint not being lubed correctly on the first one. It damaged the seal on the transmission and needed replacing.

Mine was down shifting with a bang intermittently. With exhaust brake on it would down shift from 4to2nd and bang hard. It was a loose bat connection causing trans computor to loose power intermittently.

You have a problem, get thee to an Allison shop. While they may not be the smoothest you should never hear or feel a bang.

Thanks all for the advice. Sounds like it’s going into the Freightliner shop. I have to take it down anyway for the headlight recall. They charge quite a bit just to look so I’m hoping they find something and cover it. From what you all said, I think it is likely that they will find something wrong and fix it. Thanks again. Doug

Hi John
The hard shifting and banging was repaired by correcting the loose battery connection. I’ve driven it 3000 miles since repair and still shifting normal with. no banging
