I bought a Winnebago Tour a couple of weeks ago and have had it out on the road twice so far. Both times involved some mountainous driving and I have noticed that the transmission temperature never moves off of the "cold" mark on the gage. I suspect a faulty sensor...any ideas?

Seems to be the norm for the allison MH3000 tranny with 100% Transynd Fluid. Evidently it only runs about 185*. If you put your brake on and have it in gear and let it idle, you will see the temp guage move, but even then, it does not travel very far.
There are posts all over the web with people discussing this.

The actual tranny temp should be available on the standard Freightliner driver info (odometer) display. Cycle through the items and it should come up.

Yes, Gary, thanks for that you are right. I usually have the instant mpg display called up while moving down the road...but with the price of fuel going sky high I will probably not look at that piece of information for a while.

I attended the Allison seminar in perry, and asked the same question. They said it is normal and be happy. On the trip back the temp outside hit 92 and the transmission move up very little. I think it is normal.

My TripTek shows a temp of 145 on a 75 degree day. I've seen it go as high as 165 on a 6% grade.

Thanks for your input vicsryd. I have noticed my temperature coming up off the Cold mark now that it is starting to warm up here in Georgia. How is the weather there in Vancouver? That is one beautiful city!!

Carnles,

While my Vancouver is nice it's not Vancouver, BC. My Vancouver is a suburb of Potland, OR.

We had a stretch of dry and sunny days including one 79 degree day last week. Now it's back to typical springtime (60, showers, occasional thunderstorms and small hail). It's supposed to dry out this weekend.

Yes, I understand that you live in Vancouver, Washington. We used to live in Mount Vernon Washington and had occasion to visit both Vancouvers. While the Canadian version was nice (especially Victoria), I preferred the US variety. We left Washington when I retired from the Navy and moved to Georgia to be closer to dear old Mom.

After 1,100 miles in 2 days the temp. guage
bearly moved. Standard operating results. I
didn't check the temp. on my info center for a cross reference. Next trip in July I will check.
