Very strange. Does anyone know how this happened?

Took the rig out of the pole bard today, to drive up to dept. of motor vehicles, for state inspection. After I pulled out of the barn, I got the regis & insurance cards out, and was ready to leave, when I looked at the odometer. It read 77, 401. Since I have a VMS 240 permanently connected to the engine data port, I could easily see that the correct mileage was 47, 116, which is about what the dashboard odo read when I took it out to fuel it, about a month ago. It also corresponds with the actual mileage my DW wrote in her logbook, when we came back from our last trip.

The batteries have not been disconnected, or depleted; there has been no trouble codes on the VMS, and there have been no electrical work done, or problems encountered with the chassis.

Any explanation?

Is this a digital readout? Maybe the LCD has gone bad and what you see as a "77" is supposed to be a "47", with some pixels being bad? My Actia LCD guage went bad and you couldn't make out any of the letter or numbers. Had to replace it.

Odometer was change from Miles to Kilometers?

1 kilometer = 0.621371192 miles

47116 mi. = 75825.851 km

It is an LCD digital display, and it appears normal...e.g. no blanked out segments. The kilometers thought might just be the answer. I'll have find out how it is changed between miles and kilometers. Never thought about that. Will report back once I find how how to do it, and see if that's it.

Thanks for the ideas.

Good thought. Although for the Miles-KM thing to explain these readings, the OP would have to have 48095 miles on the odometer (which equals the 77401 KM -- the number he reports seeing).

THe OP sounds like he keeps pretty meticulous records of mileage and probably would not be off by nearly 1000 miles in his records (48095 versus 47116). But, still plausible.

Well wouldn't it be nice if every problem was solved this easily? You guys are sharp. I looked up how to swicth modes on the Freightliner website; one long press of the trip reset button while displaying the odometer, and it toggles to the other mode.

So I just had to go out and check mine. Sure enough, one long press, and the mileage corresponds with the Silverleaf. Worked great. My forgetterer also worked great today; but my rememberer, no so much. I had said 77,401, when in fact, it was 77,116.

The actual mileage now, on both displays and after making the run up to DMV, is just over 48,000.

Thanks for the help.

Same thing to me, when I bought the unit. The sales person said it had 64000 miles, all the paper work said the same thing. I bought the unit, drove it back from Tucson to Cleveland. I tried checking the mileage, and was getting 16-17 mpg. The next day I clear the trip odometer, after driving what I thought would be about 500 miles, it registered as over 800. The next day, I'm checking the speedometer by the mile markers, and boy is it off.
I finally started pushing the trip buttons, and it turned out I had 38000 on the coach.

So, don't feel you had a senior moment, it happened to professionals.
