For my workhorse I had the breakdown of the detail for the VIN number. Is this available for the Freightliner?

Dengramham,
I had the same question was looking at a DP and was wondering how to decode chassis/engine build dates. Finally wound up calling Freightliner help and found the following about the VIN number. VIN numbers have much information but they match it to in house databases for both chassis/engine and will gladly help with any question you might. The nineth digit gives the year only for the chassis build and the engine is usually a month to two month older since they "Just In Time" their build process. Hope this helps.

Ken,
Thank you for the information. It helps me understand the process. FL cannot help me until the VIN number is in their database. The dealer has to enter it-apparently. I know the VIN but the dealer cannot enter it until the unit becomes his from Winnebago. So-I'll just wait.

The FL help desk should be able to tell you the build date for any VIN# even if the dealer has not entered any info. The VIN is the number the factory uses for every thing. All of the parts they put into a coach are identified by the VIN. In the factory you will see thousands of bins with parts. These bins all have a VIN# which tells them what units they fit. Give the help desk the last four digits and they can tell you more than you want to know.

Thanks Navy Flier
I see my original post was in August. I am supposed to get my unit off the assembly line tomorrow. I'll give FL a call Thanks.

Dennis,
I have the VIN breakdown info in the binder I received when I went to Camp Freightliner. If you want, send me a private message and I will break it down for you.

Joe,
Thank you very much for the offer. I just received another private message from another reader and he gave me the details. I really enjoy knowing how to read the VIN number although it would really be nice if I could actually see it on my rig. I finally will pick up my rig in Denver next Sunday. What a long summer without an rv. I'll never do it again. Thanks again for your offer.
