wheats1040 - when to dump air?

Recently purchased 2004 Revolution 40C-w/air suspension. When do you dump? Before you level or after. Does it matter ? Ckd FCCC web & books-this matter is silent.

I don't know that it makes much difference. When I pull into a site, before doing anything, I check the coach for level. If it is pretty close to level, I dump the air bags and level the coach after the air bleads off. If the coach is low to the front of the coach, I extend the front jacks until they touch the ground, dump the air, and then finish leveling the coach. To me, that takes some of the lift pressure off the front jacks. If the coach is low to the back, I lower the back jacks until they touch the ground, dump the air, bring up the front jacks about 2 inchese, and then finish leveling the coach.

On my rig, turning on the HWH leveling system automatically dumps the air.

The automatic systems dump before leveling (actually at the beginning of the leveling process).

I guess it shouldn't make much difference if the front & rear ride height is the same, but they may not be in all coaches.

By the way, leveling is a coach function rather than chassis, so your FTL manual would not address it anyway. In fact, an air dump valve is probably an addition by the body builder. Your coach owner manual may have some help on this, though.

You're right, Gary. Not all coaches are the same. Until I learned the correct way, I damaged two jacks, at $850.00 each. On my fleetwood Providence, if you level first and then dump, the coach settles forward about a foot or so. In that process, the jack can bend. When you try to raise the jacks, at least one of them will not be able to, because of the bend, caused while dumping the air, after leveling.
