Boque Chitto State Park, La.
About 75 miles Northeast of Baton Rouge, just South of Franklinton, Boque Chitto is one of the nicest state parks we have ever stayed. Huge trees shade many huge sites with wooden decks, and fire pits make this a comfortable place to park one's rig. Restrooms are private lockable suites with a shower, lavatory, and commode. The restroom facility even provides free washers and dryers!
This park is sited along a beautiful canoe-able river plus two small lakes that are stocked with sport fish. The park boast great meeting facilities with full commercial style kitchens.
This is a really nice place.
So if you are ever in this neck of the woods you couldn't go wrong visiting here.
Happy trails,
The Sundowners,
Jane and Chauncey

We just stayed at Lake Fausse Point State Park near New Iberia, LA - down in the bayous. I was impressed with that park as well. The sites were level asphalt and widely spaced. There were sites that backed on the bayou and had small decks/docks. The restrooms weren't the individual type you were talking about but were well maintained and clean. They also had laundry facilities.
The Louisiana State Park system seems to be doing something well. I'm willing to go to others and check them out as well as our TX state parks.
Oh - and I realized that I really, really prefer state parks to private campgrounds, or at least the ones we stayed at.

As a native Louisianian, I would recommend all of our state parks. They are all a good place to spend a few days. One of my favorite ones is near my home. It is Chicot state park. It is accessible from I 49 at either exit 23 or 46. There are some sites with decks, and the park has wifi. Most of the sites at the south area have 50 amps.

I do love a good state park and most of the ones I have stayed in are good. Since we aren't into swimming pools, hot tubs and "organized activities", a public park suits us. And they generally LOOK like what a campground should look like (from an ex-tent campers point of view).
Those all sound like great parks. We will have to visit them next time we go thru LA.

Chauncey,
If you have a federal Golden Age Pass or now it is called a Senior Pass, LA accepts them and the camping fee is 50% of normal.

We do have a Golden Age Passport, and I guess we left some money on the table.
Thanks for the information and we will surely use it next time.

Ralph, that is very good information about Louisiana State Parks! Are there other state parks that you know of that honor the Golden Age Passport. I guess we have used it most when staying at Corps of Engineers sites.

What I was told was that Louisiana will honor the discount your home state honors. Since Texas doesn't honor the federal cards currently, LA wouldn't honor the discount for me. Didn't matter this time since I'm not currently old enough for the senior card.
