This summer we are planning on driving through Quebec along the north shore of the St. Lawrence river to Labrador City, then on to Goose Bay and follow the new road to Red Bay via Cartwright. At that point we will take the ferry to from Blanc Sablon to St. Barbe, Newfoundland and We leave Newfoundland from Port Au Basque and sail to North Sydney, Nova Scotia.

If anyone is interested in tagging along, we would welcome the company of other New Horizons along the way.

We will check this forum periodically for any responses/inquiries.

We have a 43 foot motor home and pull a Yukon. We are planning a three month trip to Newfoundland and Labrador. Please share sources of your information. Are the roads paved, are there campgrounds, is diesel available, what is the milage, ferry cost and contact? When are you leaving?

Gosh what a grand trip. I hope you have a great time. We did the trip from Dawson City to Inuvik, a thousand mile trip on gravel. After which I swore off of gravel roads forever.

Good Luck

I did 13 months in Goose Bay one day back in 1966. -70 in the winter, snowed in june, worst misquitoes and bighting black flys I ever saw. On the upside we took a dog sled 14 miles across the ice and iced fished almost every day, that was great. I would like to take a trip there but can't for a couple of years. Enjoy, and let us know how the roads are.

We took the trip about 4 or 5 years ago. the road from Labrador City to Goose Bay was 500 miles of gravel road with one stop in between in Churchill Falls. There was a gas station there but I don't know if they had Diesel. At the time we had to take the ferry from Goose Bay to Newfoundland. It was a long and expensive trip. There is a new road now that goes all the way to Red Bay. From there the ferry ride is short and inexpensive. For sources, just Google the places you want to visit. There is a lot of good information out there.

Hi Mike and Judy,
Dennis and I are headed to Atlantic Canada this summer too. Will come into New Brunswick at St Stephens, follow the Fundy coast, go into Nova Scotia before taking the ferry from North Sydney to Newfoundland in late June. Plan to be in Newfoundland about 5-6 wks and then back to Nova Scotia and PEI before heading back to the states. Would be great to connect somewhere in Newfoundland. I'll watch for your posts and will try to post from our end.
Safe travels,
Dennis and Patty Guill
