We just installed a solar system. The converter kicks in automatically if we are not connected to AC via shoreline. What triggers charging of the batteries by the solar system? Should it happen automatically or do I have do do something manually. There is nothing in the manual that addresses this.
Thanks for your help, Gary Wall

A link to the system you installed would be very helpful in getting your questions answered. I want to add solar myself and am very interested in this...

Before you do solar go to my post under boondocking.

"Solar That Really Works"

I renovated my solar system in 9/2009 and it now really works. Read this post and learn what makes a solar system work properly.

Amen to this. I followed this thread (and participated in it) and have a solar system that kicks butt. Runs everything except A/C units without a problem. The key is getting things set up to charge at 14.8 vdc at the battery and this requires the proper charge controller and wire size.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!
