Surge Protector

Good morning, first post and it is problem related.

I am winter camping in Bozeman Montana, and do not have shore power. Something happened and the surge protector located on the right side of the main ciruit breaker box seems to be in a failure mode. It normally has two green LEDs lit, signfiying everything is okay, now only the top LED is lit.

Two part question:

I am home in Mn and I cannot remember the name of the surge protector, so can't look it up on the internet. I have a 32 foot rear kitchen mfg in 2002, and the surge protetor is a gray box, with two LEDs on it. Can someone look at theirs and send me the name?

Also, does anyone know if these are resetable, or do they have to be replaced.

As an aside, not related to the above, I have 2.5kw prosine inverter charger with a temp sensing device on the battery. When it gets to minus 15 F, the charger shuts down, and in my case I lost shore power as well. The fix is to disconnect the sensor from the inverter. It was 20 something below zero for two nights, not a time to be losing your shore power, as the propane furnace is woefully undersized for those conditions, and supplemental heat is definitly needed. The shut down is not a fault, it is designed in feature.

Thanks in advance for any help.

chuckd,

I have a 2002 31-foot RK unit. It is similar to yours but I have a 30 amp service. From your comments, I am guessing you have a 50 amp service.

My surge protector is a gray box mounted to the right of the circuit breaker box. It is called "Intermatic" Panel Gard. My Model is IG1240R. Their web site is: WWW.INTERMATIC.COM

With my 30 amp servive we have only had one green light lit since I bought the trailer. My light is lit on Line 2. Line 1 is off as usual. I believe if you have a 50 amp service and both lights are lit under normal circumstances. (However, that is just a guess).

If my "guess" is correct, then one leg of your service is having trouble.

I hope this helps.

After about one year of use on my trailer, I started having trouble getting adequate power to the trailer when I tried to operate near 25 amps. I was able to solve this problem by dismantling the plug where it attaches to the trailer. Some of these fine wires had broken from the flexing and the screws were loose. I reworked this plug and power has been O.K. since.

Good Luck, Don

Nothing more to add from me. Same surge protector that Don mentioned is in my 30 amp unit -- with the same green light.

Ouch. Isn't it cold up there north of I-80?

Thanks all.

Yes it is cold north of I80 - but not very crowded!

Will probably swing by home depot and pick one up and bring it out with me, it is a 50 amp service.

Thanks again
