What kind of pinbox?

What kind of pinbox does the NH Majestic have on their 41-43 ft. units?

That's correct, it is made by Young's Welding... However, our standard pin box is now rated at 32,000#

I sure wish there was an option for an air ride pin box. But nobody makes one rated higher than about 19,000 lbs. I had to resort to an airsafe air-ride hitch in my pickup. It works fine but it weighs 265 lbs, so it needs a winch to take it in and out. It also has a whole bunch of air hoses and fittings which (in spite of my best efforts...) leak slowly, especially in cold weather. It has to be pumped up again every couple days of travel. The 5th airborne pinbox I had on my previous 16,000 Lb trailer worked just as well, and without all the headaches. I wish 5th airborne would build a 25,000 lb model...

I have a 21,000 air-ride pinbox made for the New Horizons mounting wings. It was installed on a NH at the factory.

21K is all that they are now rated but originally they were 24K from the OEM.

Regardless, its in perfect condition and if your interested drop me a PM and we'll see if it can help you out.

Pin Box

A NH Majestic at that length would be a pretty heavy trailer. I'm not certain a cushioned pin-box is the best solution for a trailer this heavy. Cushioned pin-boxes contain a small volume of air which limits their damping on a heavy weights. I think that is one reason why the weight is capped.
Have you considered a cushioned hitch as an alternative? Bryan might be able to provide some estimated weights.

My factory build included one of those too. When NH ordered it, it was spec'd at 24,000 lbs, but when it arrived it was marked 21,000. The manufacturer said they had to de-rate it for engineering reasons. My trailer has a GVWR of 25,000 and weighs 23,500 loaded, so we had to revert to the fixed pin box.

The Air-safe air-ride hitch is a good (and safe) alternative. Its rated at 25,000 lbs towing and 5500 lbs pin weight. It works well, but its still a pain as detailed above.

I fully agree. If the trailer in question is a 25K GVWR (I guess you said that by implication) or has a 5K pin weight or more, then the "old" Trailer Saver type pin boxes, now sold by Lipptert, are not appropriate.

Likewise my "guess" as to the need to de-rate these from 24K to 21K likewise had to do with the air-bag max rating of 100psi. Obviously a 24K trailer could easily have well over a 5K pin weight and the air bag(s) simply could not handle that weight.

Best to stick with the fixed pin box and the air-ride hitch in the truck.

BTW, DRV had a bunch of these pin boxes on their rigs with 24K stickers on them. The Trail-Air literature also showed these at 24K.

Yes, when we spec'd my trailer, it was expected to weigh 19,500 lbs dry, 25k GVWR. The Trail-Air spec sheet showed a 24k rating, and I could easily stay below 24k so that's what we installed. But when I looked at the actual installed pinbox, the sticker said 21k. The manufacturer said they sent the wrong one and replaced it. The new one was the same. Eventually they realized that Engineering had reduced the ratings, but had not updated the literature yet. So I had to revert to the fixed pinbox. The trailer ended up weighing 21,500 dry, and 23,500 loaded, so the 21k Trail-Air pinbox was a non-starter...

Check out Comfort Ride hitches. They have the benefits of air ride but without the plumbing issues.
