Question Replacing carpet in super slide-out to laminate wood

We are wanting to lay laminated wood flooring in our travel trailer that has one super slide. How does this work with the slide_out? The edge of the slide-out is what we are wondering about. And will it scratch the other floor when bringing in the slide? Anyone experienced yet doing theirs?

That's a good question. Maybe put some kind of tape down on the carpet edge by the slide when it is out and then close the slide to see what happens to the tape. Or tear out the capet and try different thicknesses of the new flooring stuck down with double sided tape to see what will happen. I would suspect it depends on the height of the new flooring if it will catch or not.

I have replaced carpet in two RV,s now and am working on the third. First unit had no slides, second had 2 and present has 2. In the first I used laminate and the only problem was water damage. In the second, I used Vinyl tile and the slide rollers did leave marks on the tile as the slides went in and out. I solved the problem by putting a small, rubber-backed doormat over the tiles at each end of the slide, where the rollers were, prior to retracting the slides . I plan to do the same with #3!. I suspect the rollers will also leave a "message" on the laminate, but the solution for tile should work equally well for the laminate.

I need to know how to finish the edge of the slide floor after putting down the new laminate wood flooring. Right now it has a part of the carpet that extends out and over the carpet on the other inside floor.
The same laminate wood flooring will be put down throughout the trailer.

We installed new sheet vinyl everywhere except the slides and doghouse/front seat areas. Complimentary color to the existing carpet. Looks great.

I agree with last post by vsheetz. I left the carpet on the slides as is, including the flap that extends over the new floor. While i did not explore exactly how I would put the tile on the slideout, I knew it would be a big job. I also could not tile the rounded portions of the doghouse, and that would be a major accomplishment, if you could even do it, with laminate!.

You could drop by a Dealership that sells RV's similar to yours and take a look. Many new RVs are not using carpet at all, and it would be interesting to see what the manufacturer has done with the slides at the juncture with the main floor!

Hope this helps!
