Ashville, NC

We are going to check out Ashville in a couple of weeks, and would like suggestions of nice campgrounds to stay for a couple of weeks at least. Also, any suggestions for places to explore, eat, shop etc. Thanks for your help

MaMa Gerties

We stayed in the new section in August. Absolutely breath taking! The spaces were large and right on the edge! Not far down the road from Asheville and five minutes to a supermarket.

^^^^ ok, thanks. Very nice. I was going to look into that CG. I've heard good things about it. We stayed at the Koa just down the Rd last time we went through there.

I see you are going to be here for leaf peeper season! I want to suggest going 45 minutes west of Asheville and getting a little more in the Smokies for part of your visit. It should be getting beautiful by the second and third week of October. You will be in the Cherokee area of North Carolina and there are a bunch of parks up this way. A very nice one is the KOA in Cherokee but you will also be right near 3 or 4 others. Check it out maybe. By the way, just east of Asheville is Marion, north carolina. I mention this only because that is where Tom Johnson is located with full service available for all types of RV's. We will be getting ours inspected and fluids changed about the 2nd week of October at Tom Johnson. BE warned, you can stay there on beautiful level full service pads for 30.00/night but it is right next to his for sale lots and he has everything! Hard not to start dreaming! have fun - mark

Thanks for all the good ideas . Might even have the rig serviced, it's about due. Looking forward to our stay and checking out the above mentioned locations.

We stayed up in the new area in the spring at Mama Gerties. We really enjoyed the campground. Little tricky getting up to the top and down again but worth it!
Also conveniently located to the Ashville area.
Also head down to Black Mountain for some small town restaurants.

Is that why my DH was so quiet????

I agree with you on the way down it was a little tricky on the first and second turn coming down. I think he would have been less nervous if we hooked the toad up later, but the brakes didn't hold when we stopped to drop the garbage so that may not have worked either.....

Gerties is booked solid for October. Now it seems .scrambling. Any other recommendations. Going to be in the area for at least a month it looks like. Hoping anyway.

Hope you find a place to stay during leaf watching season, which is supposed to be spectacular this year. Not sure where to stay, but if you have any interest in American made motorcycles or Americana, check out the Wheels Thru Time museum in Maggie Valley. I know there are a number of campgrounds in that area, but availability may be an issue at this time of year.
PS: Semper Paratus. My Dad is a retired Coasty Chief, I went U.S. Air Force.
