2002 TS, Problem with Fuel Filter?

We have a 2002 Travel Supreme. We made a trip to Alabama this month. Filled up with diesel and motorhome ran fine. When we started home we added 25 gals. Went from Ala to Ga. When we started back to north Fl, the motorhome started having problems. When we stopped at a traffic light or stop sign, it would shut off. We would crank it. This happened every time we stopped. When we got to Florida, we changed the fuel filter, cranked it and let it idle for 30 minutes. We thought this fixed it, but we were wrong. Every time we stopped it would shut off. It will idle and it will run down the road but when you stop at a traffic light or stop sign it shuts off. How many fuel filters or water separaters does the 2002 TS have? HELP! We are at our wits end. Thanks

What engine do you have and what transmission?

This sounds like some ecm idle function.

Bad fuel filters typically cause low power issues at speed not while stopping.

Algae in fuel system? Get some Biocide for the fuel and plenty of filters, as they will clog quickly if algae is the culprit. Call a marina when you get to FL and ask them who does fuel system flush, that may be all you need.

Thanks for all the replies. Can you tell me how many fuel filters are on the 02 TS? We are being told there are 2 but we have only found one. Thanks

My 2006 has only one fuel filter with an attached water separator.

Take off your filter. If you can see gunk at its opening, there's your problem. If it's clean, saw it open lengthwise and see if there's crud inside.

I hope someone with an '02 TS and the ISL will chime in about the number of filters.

I'm still distracted by the fact it idles fine in neutral and runs down the road fine. Sure not typical fuel filter problem.

On the other hand, my system sucked up crud from the bottom of a nearly empty tank, and showed itself by seriously reduced power and sometimes dying at idle ONLY AFTER it had been run down the road for an hour!

If algae is the problem, it will continue to move from tank to filter, clogging them, maybe ok for a time, but must get the fuel system flushed out. If the coach has been sitting for long periods of time with low fuel level, condensation forms...= water, algae forms in water and mixes with fuel. If the problem is algae, algaecides can help, but best as preventative. Algaecides can kill the algae, but you still can have remnants of same moving into the filter.

Could have other problems too, try to get to a Cummins service center for a real diagnoses.
