50 Gal Horizontal Propane Tank Gauge & Monitor Not Working

I have searched IRV2 but can't find a thread to my problem. Have had my 2003 38' DSO3, about a year and used only a handful of times. We will be living full-time in the coach beginning 1/1/19. Propane monitor has shown full consistently. Decided to get tank filled and discovered the gauge on the tank was broken & I was 37 pounds low. So led monitor shows full all the time and gauge is no good. Not a pretty prospect to run out of lpg just when you need it. Where can I find info on a fix for the problem? Hoping it is simple. Thanks fo the help.

Did a Google search - any of these work?

Might get an extra tank, if you are in one location or just have an extra one for an emergency - been a good while since I had propane but if I recall when it was cold it would only last a week to 10 days so filling is a regular thing in the winter.

Next along with the emergency tank
I'd have a couple electric heaters for those cold nights and as a good supplement.

Best of Luck,

Were you 37 gallons low ?
Propane is dispensed by the gallon in fixed tanks.

Find the tank and look for the gauge on the side. It will be one of two types. With screws or snap in. Both will have wires leading to the internal indicator.

Look at the needle on the gauge and see if its readinf full. If it is, check the wiring going to it.

If its bad, it can be changed by snapping it out or removing the tiny screws on the plastic part. No gas leaks.

Here is what it looks like. They are not showing the wires.

My propane gauge has never worked either. I bought a new gauge but it didn't fix the problem. It appears that the mechanism inside the tank has failed. There are people that can drop the tank and replace the inside mechanism. It just hasn't been that big of a deal to me, yet. Your tank is probably built by Manchester and they can be contacted for troubleshooting procedures.

If I want to know the quantity of propane I'll pour a pitcher of hot water on the tank and look for the condensation line. (I know it's a crude way of checking quantity, but it works!)

We only use propane for the cooking stove and refrigerator when we are boondockng. Our heat is diesel Hydro-Hot. We have found that we can run a year without refilling the tank! If your furnace is propane your results will definitely be different.

My gauge is the snap in. The wire had pulled out of the spades so inside read full while tank was empty. Filled tank, replaced spades and secured wires so they hopefully will not pull out again. Both inside and tank reads the same. They should never read full anymore because tank is to be filled only to 80%. Tank gauge reads 3/4 while inside 2/3.
