Bruce,
Before retracting the jacks be sure to let the suspension air-up so that it can support the weight of your coach before bringing them up. There is a lot of weight on those jacks, if you bring them up before airing-up the suspension you can cause frame damage.

My coach doesn't fill the air bags while the jacks are deployed....

It can be a slow process for air pressure to reach its peak.
Be certain that your "standard ride" button is illuminated, if it is flashing,
the pressure is building. If solid ( not flashing), it has reached "standard ride level".

The OP has already stated he does not have Hadley air on his 40' coach. He will not have a "standard ride" button.

As The Driver stated our shorter coaches will not air up the bags when the feet are down. We have to select retract all before our air bags will start filling.

Not sure which coach you have as I can't find anything in your profile or signature?

The OP has found a procedure that works for him and has also worked for all of us with shorter coaches. I suggest we let him use it until it doesn't work.

On our coach with HWH system I press "Auto retract", the coach settles down off the jacks to the lower stops and the jacks retract. The airbags re-inflate after I start the engine, and the system pressure increases to operating range.
