Wow didn't know a tag was so controversial! I had to buy one because of CCC and to tow 10k lbs. Would have preferred to stay 40ft single but its a safety issue.

Not to sound to ignorant but being a newbie I am sure I will for a while. As we learn all that we need to know. So what does CCC mean and who do we make sure it's not an issue for us? As we have seen this a few times now, so it most be important.

That's way too broad a generalization. We have a non-tag 40-footer with plenty of load capability. No one here has mentioned all the tag coaches with front axles exceeding tire and load capacity; that's a pretty common problem with several brands I understand. At least I'm nowhere near my tire load limits.

The tag axle is good insurance in case your wife runs over the dog with the drive axle , the tag makes sure the job gets done.

CCC is cargo carrying capacity. This covers water, people and all their stuff that you load into your coach. It also includes any tongue weight if you pull a trailer.
Many new coaches with tile and all the luxeries of home push the envelope, the older coaches seem to have more room. In addition, most states only allow 20k lbs per axle, so you may have plenty of CCC, but be overweight on the rear axle itself.
Lots of topics here discussing this if you want more info.
So in my case I only wanted a 40 ft, but needed the tag for towing and CCC. By going to a 42ft, I get most of the storage back that I lost.

This is no longer correct; the federal highways bill enacted a month ago now provides motorhomes the same exemption as had been provided to buses; the axle weight can be as much as 24,000 pounds. The federal statute overrides existing state laws. The details are contained in the most recent FMCA magazine.

Thanks for the update! I guess now you just have to get the manufacturer to spec higher than the 20k they have usually been at.

A couple of the previous comments made me chuckle. As said many times, try one, you will want to buy one. Buy one, you will not go back. I have a 45' after owning a 40'. It is a world of difference in all aspects. I just love the room, ESPECIALLY THE EXTRA SINK and all, all, all the room. A 45' doesn' only give you an extra sink as one commenter said????? If you don't have it, don't knock it. Life is life, not everyone likes everything. You can't explaint it to someone if you don't have it and use it.
Do a through preflight,
Miles

1Aviator X2 for me. We had a 45ft. Alante and went to a 43ft. Entegra. We really miss that extra room, it DOES make a huge difference. So much so, that we have a new 45 ft Entegra on order. Can't wait until it arrives and we get back into a bigger coach. Just our experience and opinion.
