Engine monitors

Has anyone noticed the many apps for Apple iPhone or iPad that are available to monitor engine, transmission functions for theOBD equipped vehicles?
Cheap, 0 to 20 dollars for the app and 20 to 30 for the wifi adapter to fit on the OBD connector.
Reading the reviews, the apps work very well.
Why are we as diesel owners being penalized hundreds of dollars for such a device for us?
I understand there are not that many of us, and the protocol is different, but come on, someone out there with just a little bit of expertise an apple, and the wifi adapter should be able to come with an app for us.
So get busy, go to work and do it!
