Granite countertops setting off Radiation detectors coming into USA from Canada

We made every CBP Officer nervous when we set off the detectors coming through Calais, Maine Port. After two hours and 2 drive through and walk thru's and a call into Washington Scientists, we now know that all our granite is radioactive with an unknown source found.

Has any other Select or Limited owner had an issue crossing the border?

Do a search for "granite radon".

Granite countertops

Thank you for the information. I printed off the page so I might be able save some time during next year border crossing!

Is no one concerned about health issues? I understand radon isn't good for you.

I have had similar experience when crossing back into United States from Canada. Those drive-through detectors must be extremely sensitive. Just a good example of Technology protecting us from terrorists at our border.

I was in the Navy and commercial nuclear business my entire adult life and yes, those detectors are extremely sensitive to detect radiation from a piece of granite onboard a MOHO. The technology and dedicated folks in both the military and law enforcement are keeping us all safe. Happy Veteran's Day.

You are probably exposed to more radiation standing in direct sunlight, or flying in an airplane, than sleeping on a granite slab. Here in the Granite State (and other granite-heavy areas like the Rocky Mountains) it is common to have radon mitigation systems in our houses. We have a ventilation system that draws air from beneath the foundation and exhausts it above the roof to avoid buildup of radon gas in the house. The most important thing, though, is the air bubbler that removes radon from our domestic water supply. From what I have been told, there is no significant risk to drinking the water or swimming in it. Breathing radon in a steamy shower poses the greatest health hazard.

Yes I have heard of this. I owned a 2003 Select and in the same town another guy had the exact same one as mine. His son used it to go on a fishing trip into Canada and had the same thing happen. This would have been back in 2004 this happened. I know he sold it a year or two later. That's all I know about it.
