House Battery Choices

I've been trying to read as many posts as I can on house batteries, but can't seem to find what i'm looking for..... I have a 2006 42ds04 and it looks like i'm going to need to replace those 8 house batteries this winter/spring. they still hold a charge, but they corrode my straps and other unprotected metal in my battery compartment. Plus being 10 years old i'm assuming i'm playing with fire, heck I just replaced my tires this past spring.....

my question is do I go with typical deep cell or AGM type batteries.
- is there a big difference in performance between the 2?
- Does one type last longer than the other?
- i'm assuming there is a price difference, but i'll weigh the pro/cons.

thanks for the help in advance, as I know i'll get some good advice.

I went with Lifeline AGM's. Got tired of the corrosion. Last longer..don't know. Performance seems to be the same as with the wet cells without the corrosion. Peace of mind for me.

You might want to check out the charging circuit to insure overcharging is not the cause of excessive gassing before you replace your batteries.

If you do get new batteries do your homework on AGM vs conventional.

I have been very happy with Trojan 6 volt wet cell 125s. Had AGMs in previous coach and experienced early failure.

We have 4ea Interstate GC2 6v wet cell house batteries now 3 & 1/2 years old, and use the Pro-Fill watering system. Our battery compartment & battery terminals are completely free of any corrosion.

In 2012, our 4 batteries cost $391.11, and although AGM batteries are maintenance free, I can't justify spending the extra $$$ for the AGM's.

Good luck with your choice and safe travels.....

thanks for the input. I really didn't want to go the extra $$ for AGM unless it was an improvement in performance. my current wet cells are 10 years old. so many Trojan or equivalent quality brand is the way to go. thanks, in a few months I will make my purchase.
