Kingdome signal strength meter

My signal strength meter on my Kingdome dish varies from 17 to 123. Is that normal?

Not for sure about Kingdome strength. I check my Direct TV satellite signal strength ever so often & it runs between the 80s & 90s, but normally in high 90s. Doesn't fluctuate as much as you've defined. I have the in motion Kingdome on my Select.

Same as Dale here. No in motion but my strength is usually well above 90 and hardly ever dips below 90.

Interesting.

I have no "panel on the wall" showing the Kingdome signal strength...(I can only get/see the satellite signal strength on the TV screen).
Please tell me more about your wall panel satellite signal strength meter, (or post a link or a picture)?

Thanks

BTW, I have one of these: SensarPro TV Signal Strength Meter, for the batwing OTA TV antenna.

Dick,
I had that same setup in my old Phaeton. However, when I discarded the KVH on my TS, I went back with King Dome and the new setup does not have such a display. Only an on off switch. I think I may have a couple of those LCD displays in my shop if you ever need one, although that was rarely ever my problem. There is a single cord that comes from that display that plugs into a "black box" that I seem to remember having to get software upgrades for. You might check with kingdome and see what the current version of firmware that they are on. Maybe find a local RV service or even a RV sales dept that can help you. (Or if you are ever in Red Bay... I gotta guy!)

That's the control for the in-motion dome. Are you sure that number is signal strength? I read the manual twice. but I couldn't find where they told us what those numbers were. When parked, I see the numbers changing when the signal strength screen on the receiver showed steady.

I assumed that it had something to do with where the dish was aimed.

Yes, you are correct, that is the controller for the in motion. On the readout, there is an "S", and the number next to the S is the strength of the signal that the dome is receiving from the sat. It moves constantly, sometimes every second, by small or large amounts depending on the quality of the view (obstructions, bridges, trees, or even just fine tuning itself all of the time while in motion.) Imagine the inner workings of the dome like a bobble-head, not still for very long. Even when parked and on jacks, the rig may sway with the wind or even wiggle while you walk through it. The dome is set to seek optimum signal strength when it can.

Dick, if you do need to change out the LNB, it is very simple. Two set screws and the coax connection. It sits in a slotted groove type assembly, so it can't be put in wrong, and needs no re calibration. Takes me longer to get on top of the coach, and undo the top of the dome, than the actual change-out.
