Kitchen drawers

Our kitchen drawers come open when traveling. Has anyone found a solution to this problem. I put a small hook on the top and bottom (out of sight) and tie them down. It works, but there has to be a better answer.

I went with the "Ugly" method, I put a couple of "lag type" (Screw into wood) eye screws one between the #1 and #2 and the other between #4 and #3 in the 4 drawer stack.

A dowel rod dropped down through the eyes and the drawers do not open.

Bungee works for the rest of 'em. Hook & Eye on some cabinets and a hinge with the pin removed and a cotter pin (Well half of it) for the rest.

Do a Google search for "Grabber Catch" and you'll see tons of them. Tifin uses them and they hold real well. They come in different capacities, usual 5, 10, or 20 lb pulls. The 10 lb pulls models work great for most applications. They are even installed on the residential fridge doors to keeop them from swinging out. Although, in that case a door full of gallon milk jugs can still swing open in a tight, bumpy curve.

velcro on each drawer works good, but you have to put a dab of glue on them to keep them from coming loose. i used just ahalf inch piece.

The drawer tracks are designed such that you need to lift them before you can pull them out. Sometimes the metal tab that holds them closed gets bent and then they do not stay. If you remove the drawer you can bent the tab back into place (just a little or they become difficult to open) to correct the problem. I adjusted them on my previous MOHO (97 Winne Vectra) and our current rig with no additional hardware and they stay closed when we travel. Good luck.

We had the same problem on our new HR Vacationer. As a warranty item, the dealer installed a second latch on each drawer (same type as was there). This has fixed the problem thus far!

I changed my drawer slides to self-closing types.

Kitchen Drawers

I think I found a solution. I went to Rockler Woodworking and found a three piece magnetic latch. You simply screw the magnet holder (center piece) into either the back of the drawer or the cabinet frame. You then insert a powerful 3/8" magnet (left piece). You screw the flat washer like piece (piece on right) to the other side. Use #4 stainless steel flat head screws. I will use a 1/2" Forrester Bit to counter sink both ends. The assembled piece looks like the bottom piece in the picture.

I too use a graber latch.

3# or 5# work great on drawers and cab doors, or the 10# on difficult ones and long cab doors like W/D, or a long warped door.
Used extensively in the marine industry. Got mine at a local marine supply, but could get online also. Close with a positve "snap" so you know you are locked. Also, very unobtrusive and easy to install.
I also like the Rockler magnetic that use a rare earth magnet, but I perfer the positve latch, as a bump, can dislodge a magnetic contact.
