No air pressure - help

2006 TSS 45

As puling in campground today the air alarm went off on front tank. System is not building pressure but holding about 50-60 lbs. No sign of a leak. Several questions - what controls the pressure in the front and rear tanks? If I have a bad compressor that is major and will probably need to tow or use portable compressor. Where is the tow tie in connection? Have looked all over front around generator and can not find. The one on my Monaco was right above the generator set. I do find on in the rear by the aux start switch? is that it?

Any help would be appreciated. thanks Buck

Not sure this will help but I had something similar happen. Turned out the purge valve had gunk in it. And it was leaking but hard to hear. Whacked it a few times and it held air. I replaced it at our next stop.

....yup--check out the air dryer purge valve to make sure it is closing....there is also a high pressure dump valve up on the side of most air dryer assemblies that can also leak....

FYI, it did take me a while to find out mine was leaking because it only leaked when the engine was running and pressure was trying to build up. Of course, I could not hear any leaks with the engine noise. When I shut the engine off to go listen for leaks, the air had leaked out enough that I could not hear it. I had to put my hand on the valve with the engine running and then I could feel the air leaking. BTW, if that is your problem, they are easy to replace yourself.

Replacing?

Jake are you saying the valves are replaceable or just get a new dryer complete?

No air pressure - help

Valve is easily replaced. At least on mine it was. It is a Wabco purge valve rebuild kit. Picked it up at Oreillys Auto.

On my 06 Select, there's the connector in the engine compartment you found, and there's one inside the first basement door curb-side.

System is not building pressure but holding about 50-60 lbs. If the system is holding 50-60 lbs the compressor is probably not the problem, nor is it likely to be in the braking system as 50-60 lbs is the minimum required for brake release.

what controls the pressure in the front and rear tanks? The pressure regulator tries to maintain between approximately 100 and 125 in the tanks.

Where is the tow tie in connection? On mine there is also a connection in the first bay on the passenger side.

You should also check the drain/moisture valves on the front tanks. I assume you have an automatic moisture eject valve on your tanks and one of them could be leaking. These are the valves that have the lanyards attached.

If you still haven't found the leak it's time to break out the spray bottle of soapy water and start looking for bubbles! I would think with this large of a leak it should be easy to locate. Also check air bags for leaks.

Thanks for the help

Well the rest of the story - turns out it was a melted 1/4 plastic air line that was buried in a bunch of hoses and electrical wiring. The exhaust flex tubing (5")
had cracked and was sending hot gasses to the bundle of wiring. The plastic tubing was the first to fail. Simple 1/4 to 1/4 coupler and then work to patch the exhaust until permanent repairs are made. Made it home 5 hours no problems. Now have a new spare dryer and several other parts. Moral of the story is that I noticed some new exhaust soot on that side of the engine compartment last week but did not investigate - bad decision.

Thanks again everyone for the insight. Buck
